Tiger Woods 2003 PS2 |
If you enjoyed TW2002 then youll love this. As TW2002 was already pretty damn fine there isnt a huge lot of improvements. Its just that the graphics seem that bit sharper, the players that bit more realistic and the sound a bit clearer. However the main reason I should imagine people will buy it is for the new courses, with the best one being the home of golf itself, the old course at St Andrews, complete with huge greens, deep deep bunkers, the famous road hole bunker on the 17th and the Valley of Sin on the 18th, excellent stuff. Its almost worth trying to land in them to see what its like to play them. Theres also some excellent other new courses (with a ficticious Highlands course being particularly good), some new players, the addition of different types of equipment you can earn (shafts, golf balls, gloves etc) and also some new target games to keep you busy. If you already have and enjoy TW2002 and you want more of the same but better, then invest in this. If you dont have TW2002 and want a good golf game then its an essential purchase.

The most playable golf game on the market |

While Links remains the definitive simulation for golf purists, Tiger Woods is much better to just pick up and play, especially with friends. The amount of outrageous chip-ins, holes-in-one, sand saves and colossal drives show that its a game with fun in mind, but underneath theres a very good golf game with great graphics and a host of fun features. The courses in particular are excellent, particularly Sawgrass and the Home of Golf, The Old Course at St Andrews. What the R&A would make of some of the characters in the game (including ludicrously-quiffed Samoan and immense Sumo wrestler) is quite another matter. However, there are some more recognisable players including Tiger, Monty and Jesper Parnevik and the analog swing method sets it apart from other games of the ilk that require only skilless button-bashing to do well. Its absolutely ideal for a fun romp when the weathers too bad to play outside, but its maybe a little too easy to become good at in comparison to other sports sims.

Still too easy |

Already owning Tiger Woods 2002 i thought it was time to get the new version and while the graphics and general game play are far superior i cant help but think that it is far to easy a game to play. I can constantly record over 20 under par on a regular basis and that really isnt much of a challenge is it. I was hoping that this version would be harder than previous but unfortunately EA have bought in additional features like designing your own golfer and not worked on making the game harder to conquer and make it more realistic and less of a stroll in the park which it has turned out to be.
