Get Out of a Bunker

Bunker Shot – Get from the sand onto the Green

It looks great doesn’t it, chipping from the sand into the hole!

To get out of a bunker or the sand you don’t hit the ball first. Yes, it sounds a little odd but you have to in fact MUST hit the sand before the ball taking sand and ball out of the sand trap penalty.

Some bunkers next to the green have a lip, which can make exit more difficult and this needs to be taken into consideration when working out angles. The club face of the sand wedge can be opened more or less depending on what is needed.

It is essential that the golf ball is in a well forward position within your stance, which will help you to take sand before ball.

Sand types can change so check this with your hands before playing your shot. Water, rain or irrigation can also affect texture so please check prior to playing.

As with all golf shots, keep smooth, keep controlled, while keeping your eye on the ball.
